Talked Spotlight: Interview with Hollie Bakerboljkovac

Interview

The Talked Spotlight series is where we interview the clinicians who help make Talked the premier Australian digital mental health platform

Name: Hollie Bakerboljkovac

Age: 39

Years practicing: 3 years registered with PACFA but practicing therapeutically 1:1 and groups 16+ years

Specialty: Anxiety, Life Transitions and Trauma and PTSD

Please describe yourself in 20 words or less.

A respectful disregard for the status quo and mainstream culture. I believe in the capacity of human beings to do extraordinary things, when they live authentically.

What is a hobby you love to do in your spare time?

I have three main hobbies: gardening, knitting, and riding horses.

Why did you choose this career path?

I enjoy supporting people who want more from their life. I get excited when people embrace changes that empower them to live well, with an unlimited and unbound life. After working privately for many years with people in therapeutic sessions 1:1, in groups and retreats, I decided to get the qualification for counselling to allow more people to access the services I was offering.

Tell me about one experience which has kept you doing what you’re doing.

I live in a small town and see many local people, as well as people further afield online. I'm always in awe of the deep hurts and vulnerabilities people carry with them, and might not ever seem like it from outside.

What is one piece of general advice that you would give to a client starting out their mental health journey?

There's no right or wrong way for you, there's simply your way.

If you weren’t doing what you were doing, what career would you have pursued?

Doll making, decluttering, or butcher.

What is one item in your fridge that would surprise us?

Jars of hops flowers.

Is there anything about you that you would like clients who are reading to know?

I am pro-choice everything!
