Frequently Asked Questions

How do I claim a Medicare rebate?

If eligible you can claim up to 10 rebated Medicare sessions per year, where you'll receive a rebate back to your account after each session. For a general psychologist you'll receive $96.65 and for a clinical it's $141.85.

We will process all your Medicare claims on your behalf, so you can get paid directly back to your bank account after each session.

To be eligible you must have a mental health plan and a GP referral. Learn more about Medicare.

What's the difference between a psychologist and counsellor?

Psychologists have more years of university training and are registered with AHPRA, which means they can provide Medicare rebates. Counsellors are also qualified and registered professionals (with ACA or PACFA) but focus more on talk-based support and don’t attract Medicare rebates. This difference in training, rebates, and registration is why session fees vary.

Should I See a Psychologist or Counsellor?

What's your cancellation policy?

You will not be charged if you cancel or reschedule your session before 48 hours of your session starting.

If you cancel within 24-48 hours of the scheduled session then you will be refunded 50% of the session fee.

If you provide less than 24 hours notice or if you do not attend your session you will not be eligible for a refund.

You may cancel and reschedule directly from your Talked dashboard.
