Accessing psychologist services has been a persistent challenge for many Australians. From stigma and high costs to long wait times and therapist mismatch, there are simply too many reasons to delay or forgo professional mental health support.
At the same time, Australia’s mental health data remains alarming, including Tasmania having higher rates of death by suicide than the national average. It does not help that those who want to seek support typically have to wait months just to get a psychologist appointment… But this is where Talked is helping to bridge the gap.
Through a new partnership with St Lukes, Talked now gives St Lukes members access to a psychologist within 12 hours, seven days a week, including evenings and weekends.
Eligible members can access one free 50-minute psychology session per calendar year. All members also receive discounted session rates and can seamlessly book Medicare-subsidised sessions if they have a Mental Health Treatment Plan. Talked also lets members choose their psychologist or use Talked’s therapist-matching tool.
“By connecting members with a psychologist within hours and providing a funded first session, we are helping take the uncertainty out of accessing care and making it easier to begin,” said St Lukes Chief Health Officer, Luke Cameron.
Beyond psychology sessions, members can access Talked’s wellbeing resources and tools 24/7, free of charge. These include mental health courses and articles, a mood tracker, digital journal, wellbeing self-assessments and other practical resources designed to support their mental wellbeing.
For the Talked team, this partnership is an important step towards making mental health support easier to access when people need it.
