Who is Talked?

Talked is an Australian online therapy platform created by a team in Melbourne who are passionate about mental health. We match individuals and couples with qualified therapists to provide you convenient, affordable, and secure access to online therapy - wherever you may be in Australia.

Why should I use Talked?

Finding the right therapist can be tough. You need to ensure you have a good rapport and they have the experience and expertise to help you.

Our goal at Talked is to connect you with the right therapist for you.

Instead of automatically assigning you a therapist, we have created a platform that allows you to search, filter, and chat with therapists before booking a session. You can view their profile, see a photo, watch their video, or send them a message to ensure they are a good match.

You may also use our matching tool to be recommended the best therapist for you.

How will I communicate with my therapist?

It's totally up to you how you'd like to connect with your therapist. On Talked, you can have sessions via video call, phone call, or chat/text. You can also send your therapist messages between sessions (or even before booking) to stay supported and connected.

What is telehealth therapy?

Telehealth is very similar to in-person therapy. The only difference is that it's done remotely via video call, voice call, or chat. This gives the added benefit of not having to travel to your appointment, and you can attend the session from the comfort and privacy of your own home.

Studies have shown that telehealth is just as beneficial as in-person sessions and is preferred in many cases. For more info, check out our guide on the advantages of online therapy and tips for a successful therapy journey.

Counsellor, psychologist, psychotherapist... What's the difference?

Counsellors, psychologists and psychotherapists are all licensed professionals who offer mental health support.

  • Counsellors can help with concerns and difficulties in everyday life. They can help you understand your thought patterns, behaviours, emotions, and reasons for why certain behaviours and thoughts can be problematic or unhelpful.

  • The terms “counselling” and “psychotherapy” are often used interchangeably, but there are slight distinctions. Counselling generally refers to short-term consultation while psychotherapy typically refers to longer-term treatment. In general, counselling is more concerned with practical or immediate issues and outcomes, while psychotherapy is more focused on helping a person understand their life in a profound and reflective manner.

  • Psychologists can help in the same manner as counsellors and psychotherapists, but they are also involved with all matters of mind, which comprises of everyday thought processes and behaviours. Often, a psychologist will work with patients in a clinical setting to assist with complex mental health conditions. If you have a formal diagnosis, a psychologist might be a good choice. A psychologist may be a Medicare provider, which will allow you to claim a rebate if you are referred by a GP.
