ACA Health is a restricted, not-for-profit health fund for Seventh-day Adventist Church employees and their families.
Extras cover may include psychology and counselling services, depending on your level of cover.
Claims can be submitted via the ACA Health app, online portal or HICAPS.
ACA Health Benefits Fund is a restricted, not-for-profit private health insurer that provides cover exclusively to employees of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and its associated organisations, along with their eligible family members.
As outlined on its official website, ACA Health is focused on delivering simple, value-driven health insurance tailored to its member community. Being not-for-profit means any surplus is reinvested into member benefits and services rather than paid to shareholders.
In addition to hospital cover, ACA Health offers Extras cover that helps members manage the cost of everyday healthcare services. Depending on your policy, this can include support for mental health care, such as psychology and counselling.
Which ACA Health Extras policies include mental health treatment?
Can you claim the same session through both ACA Health and Medicare?
ACA Health may cover online psychology sessions or telehealth, provided your chosen service provider meets eligibility requirements.
While ACA Health does not distinguish heavily between in-person and online formats, services generally need to:
Be delivered by an appropriately qualified provider
Fall within an included Extras category
Meet the fund’s claiming requirements
Because cover varies between products, members should check their policy details or contact ACA Health to confirm whether telehealth services are included.

ACA Health may cover psychology sessions under their Complete Ancillary and Mid Ancillary. Specific benefits and limits may change, so it’s best to check ACA Health’s website or app before trying to make any claims.
Extras Type | Annual Limit Per Person for Psychology Services | Specific Psychology Benefits |
|---|---|---|
Complete Ancillary | $500 | 80% of the initial treatment cost up to $110; 80% of the subsequent treatment cost up to $80; 80% of the clinical assessment cost up to $150 |
Mid Ancillary | $300 | 80% of the initial treatment cost up to $110; 80% of the subsequent treatment cost up to $80; 80% of the clinical assessment cost up to $150 |
In contrast, Ancillary Lite is a more basic Extras option. It offers more limited benefits and may not include the same level of cover for allied health services like psychology.Â
For any ACA Health Extras policy, the following conditions apply:
The service must be included under your level of cover
The provider must be appropriately qualified and recognised
The treatment must fall within ACA Health’s approved categories
Benefits are also subject to annual limits and fund rules, so the amount you can claim will depend on your remaining entitlements and policy details. It's important to review your policy or contact ACA Health to confirm exactly what mental health services you can claim before starting treatment.

When you book a psychology session through Talked, you will be charged 48 hours before your appointment. After the session, Talked will provide you with a detailed invoice that includes all the information that ACA Health Insurance typically requires, including:
The patient’s name and full address
The psychologist’s name and provider number
Date and item number of the service
Type and description of the provided service
Amount paid
With your invoice ready, you can then submit your claim through any of the following methods:
Download the ACA Health Mobile Claiming App
Click on "Submit Claims"
Upload and submit the necessary document

Download and fill out ACA's claim form
Scan other necessary requirement
Submit your email to claims@acahealth.com.au
It’s best to submit your claim as soon as possible after your session. This helps ensure your claim falls within the relevant benefit period and reduce delays in receiving your rebate.
Note that waiting periods may apply for Extras services, including psychology and counselling, particularly when you first take out or upgrade your policy.
No. You cannot claim the same psychology session through both ACA Health and Medicare. However, you can use both options for separation sessions by:
Accessing Medicare rebates for up to 10 sessions through a Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP) from your GP
Once those sessions are used, claim additional sessions through your ACA Health Extras cover
This approach can help you manage costs across the year.

ACA Health allows members to choose their own providers, provided they meet eligibility criteria. Look for:
AHPRA-registered psychologists
Accredited counsellors or mental health social workers
Providers who can issue detailed invoices or offer HICAPS
If you’re unsure whether a provider is eligible, ACA Health recommends contacting their team for confirmation before booking.
If you’re unsure, ask the provider before booking whether they’re recognised by private health funds. Alternatively, you can use Talked to browse psychologists recognised by ACA Health and then proceed with booking either a short introductory session or a full, 50-minute session.

Accessing mental health support can feel more manageable when the process is clear. With Talked, you can connect with qualified, registered mental health professionals and receive a detailed invoice suitable for ACA Health claims.
This can make it easier to submit claims through the ACA Health app or member portal without needing to follow up on missing information.
